World Music School (WMS) Open Mic at the Helsinki Open Waves
A 40 min live show, moderated by Pedro Aibéo, chairman of the WMS at the Helsinki Open Waves in Caisa. Every 4th Wednesday of the month at 16:00 Finnish time.
The show invites musicians to talk about their work and lives and play live music. The goal is to promote local artists, preferably from foreign backgrounds and around world music. The interview is done in different languages (EN, PT, DE, ES, FR).
Aino Peltomaa is a Finnish singer and musician, performing widely with medieval, renaissance, improvised and contemporary music. Peltomaa collaborates actively with musicians and artists from different genres and performs regularly in Finland and abroad. Her innovative projects combine elements from early music, folk and jazz, visual arts and dance.
Peltomaa leads and co-leads groups such as: Peltomaa Fraanje Perkola, Ensemble Gamut! Amor Céu, Harmony of the Spheres, ´k:amos, trio Sufira and has recorded for labels such as Outhere Music, Eclipse Music and Aspen Edities. Peltomaa´s most recent album ÆR was chosen as the album of the week by the French Musiq3 radio station. Her other album UT was selected among the best classical music albums of the year 2021 by the Finnish broadcasting company YLE. It received ”The early music achievement of the year” -prize, and was chosen as one of the best progressive music albums of 2020 by Jez Rowden/The Progressive Aspect. Peltomaa works in the Finnish Chamber Choir and holds retreats that combine gregorian chant, yoga and meditation. Master of Art in Music, Master of Art in Psychology.

Aino Peltomaa on kansainvälistä uraa tekevä suomalainen laulaja, muusikko, sovittaja, pedagogi ja tuottaja. Peltomaa on syvällisesti perehtynyt keskiajan ja renessanssin musiikkiin, suomalaiseen kansanmusiikkiin ja viime vuosina yhä enemmän improvisoituun musiikkiin, nykymusiikiin sekä elektroniikkaan luoden oman tyylinsä näiden genrejen rajapinnoilla. Peltomaa tekee runsaasti poikkitaitellista yhteistyötä eri taidelaijien edustajien ja maineikkaiden kansainvälisten artistien kanssa Suomessa ja ulkomailla.
Peltomaa luotsaa perustamiaan yhtyeitä Ensemble Gamut!, Peltomaa Fraanje Perkola, Amor Céu, Harmony of the Spheres ja toimii tämän lisäksi mm. Trio Sufirassa, Aition ja, ´k:amos – yhtyeissä – sekä Helsingin kamarikuorossa.
Sanoittajana Peltomaa julkaisi esikoisalbuminsa ´k:amos kansainväliselle Aspen Edities – levymerkille 2019 yhteistyössä belgialaisen kontrabasisstin Nathan Woutersin kanssa. Vuonna 2021 belgialainen levymerkki Outhere Music julkaisi Peltomaan julkaisun ÆR triolla Peltomaa Fraanje Perkola, hollantilaisen pianistin Harmen Fraanjen sekä suomalaisen gambistin Mikko Perkolan kanssa. Keskiajan musiikkia, suomalaista kansamusiikkia, improvisaatiota ja elektroniikkaa yhdistävän Ensemble Gamut!:n esikoislevy ”UT” valittiin mm. Suomen vanhan musiikin teoksi 2020, sekä vuoden parhaiden proge-levyjen joukkoon (Jez Rowden, The Progressive Aspect) sekä YLE:n parhaiden levyjen joukkoon 2021. Peltomaalla on maisterin tutkinnot sekä musiikista, että psykologiasta.
