season 3, episode 5 | Laura Pyrrö

Global club nights is a networking and informative club series in collaboration with Caisa Cultural centre, Helsinki Open waves web radio and the Global music Department of Sibelius Academy, that aims to bring together all parties involved with music. With live music, seminars and workshops the events attempt to create bridges between musicians, event producers, agents, venues, and music lovers, bringing down barriers and creating a safe and creative environment of free expression. In a celebration of diversity, using the tools of intercultural collaboration and specialized knowledge, we provide the possibility of a neutral and safe space for sharing and exchange of knowledge, information, wishes and insights on the music industry in Finland, both on the part of the musician and from the business side while most importantly, sharing it with the community.

Laura Pyrrö is a Finnish cultural field multi-tasker: opera and concert singer, cultural producer, teacher, lecturer, opera translator, and cultural journalist.

Hailing from the production of Espan lava for already two seasons, we get to hear what makes a project attractive to a producer but also how music professionals navigate through the different characters that they need to have in today’s society as music professionals.

Laura Pyrrö finished her Master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy opera class with all of her singing examinations rated excellent. In 2002, Laura won the acknowledged Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition and has sung as a soloist at the Finnish National Opera and Savonlinna Opera Festival, among numerous other venues.

Besides Finland, Pyrrö has performed widely across Europe, plus the United States, India, and Thailand. She has worked in many artist residencies, like Villa Lante in Rome and Villa Karo in Benin, West Africa. After working as a freelance artist and producer for more than 20 years, Laura accepted a hiring as the cultural producer of the renowned Espa Stage in the heart of Helsinki. Her first commitment at Espa took place in 2023, and she continued her work throughout the season 2024. At the Espa Stage, her work includes planning, selecting, and scheduling approximately 300 events per season: everything from various music genres to dance, circus, panel discussions, and children’s programs.
