Episode 1 | Jaana Kanninen, Adolfo Vera, Nita Vera
“Global club nights’’ is a networking and informative club series in collaboration with Caisa Cultural centre, Helsinki Open Waves web radio and the Global music Department of Sibelius Academy, that aims to bring together all parties involved with music. With live music, seminars and workshops the events attempt to create bridges between musicians, event producers, agents, venues, and music lovers, bringing down barriers and creating a safe and creative environment of free expression. In a celebration of diversity, using the tools of intercultural collaboration and specialized knowledge, we provide the possibility of a neutral and safe space for sharing and exchange of knowledge, information, wishes and insights on the music industry in Finland, both on the part of the musician and from the business side while most importantly, sharing it with the community.
In this episode we are going to touch a powerful topic, brought to Caisa by very special guests.
We are looking at the 50 years mark from the violent Chilean coup d’état of 11 September 1973 that brought down the country’s democracy and began a 17-year military dictatorship.
Thousands of dissidents were killed, tens of thousands were tortured and hundreds of thousands went into exile. As a result of these events, a strong Chilean community was also established in Finland. Now, half a century after the revolutionary events, the Chilean community is offering a wide range of cultural events that will bring out memories and emotions of that time. The events in Chile will also be analysed in terms of their impact on Finnish society.
In the studio with us we are glad and grateful to have Jaana Kanninen, journalist and writer, who had a long career as a foreign reporter for YleisRAdio and a writer since his retirement. Member of the Chile50 group through a late Chilean spouse.
