Episode 6 | Juniper & The Wolf (aka Genevieve Andræssen)
‘’Global club nights’’ is a networking and informative club series in collaboration with Caisa Cultural centre, Helsinki Open waves web radio and the Global music Department of Sibelius Academy, that aims to bring together all parties involved with music. With live music, seminars and workshops the events attempt to create bridges between musicians, event producers, agents, venues, and music lovers, bringing down barriers and creating a safe and creative environment of free expression. In a celebration of diversity, using the tools of intercultural collaboration and specialized knowledge, we provide the possibility of a neutral and safe space for sharing and exchange of knowledge, information, wishes, and insights on the music industry in Finland, both on the part of the musician and from the business side, while most importantly, sharing it with the community.
In this episode we are very honoured to host the amazing Genevieve Andræssen:
Juniper & The Wolf (aka Genevieve Andræssen) is a duo of one; a singer-songwriter and traditional folk musician, weaving together her own unique brand of epic poetry, storytelling, original music, and folk songs from around the world. Encompassing a multitude of languages and eras, Andersen spins a delicate web of melody, harmony, and counterpoint, entwining haunting vocals, liltingly playful guitar riffs, and the melancholy sounds of the Swedish nyckelharpa (or keyed fiddle). Whether performing solo or collaborating with any number of the great, local musicians she encounters on her travels, her shows continuously sway between spellbound silences and joyously singing crowds.
Hailing from the USA, Genevieve has travelled extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Canada, collecting songs and stories from various countries and cultures, and now calls Finland her home. Currently, in addition to performances and her many, varied folk collaborations and projects, Andersen attends the Global Music program at the renown Sibelius Academy, where she studies techniques for global activism through music, various forms of lilting (or ‘mouth music’), polyrhythmics, nyckelharpa, and double bass. With a strong passion for igniting a fascination with the folkloric arts within all of her audiences, Juniper & The Wolf will leave you quietly transformed–ready to escape into the wilds, forge a new world empire, or delve into the heart of a fascinating story.
